About the Role
The role of a Senior Lawyer in L&CG is to provide legal advice and support to ANZ's Trade & Supply Chain business (the
supported business ) with a primary focus in (or for) a specified geographic area (the
supported region ) but also covering other markets as required.
Senior Lawyers are expected to proactively and with limited oversight or supervision, provide legal support required by the supported business unit as a whole, including to more senior stakeholders on their more complex matters or transactions.
A Senior Lawyer will also support the more senior risk, compliance and enablement partners of the supported business.

What will your day look like?
Depending on the supported business, the role of the Senior Lawyer may include some of the following for the supported business as needed:
Provide general legal advice on day-to-day operations and matters with a focus on being proactive.
Help resolve the supported business' more complex legal, regulatory or customer problems.
Help assess and implement regulatory change, strategic change and growth initiatives.
Negotiate and draft documentation and assist with execution of the supported business' more complex transactions relating to products and services.
Provide regulatory advice and advice on compliance with or breach of the law (including breach reporting) on more complex regulatory issues facing the supported business, including as necessary simple interactions with regulators.
Provide advice on the entry into and governance of the more complex principal transactions, joint ventures, partnerships or other investment activities undertaken by the supported business.
Provide advice on the development of and approval of new and innovative services, products, channels, or payment, settlement or clearing systems, exchanges or other financial infrastructure.
Help obtain licenses to support distribution of products and services.
Provide advice on and assistance with remediation activities, regulatory enquires or investigations, requests for information, disputes, complaints or other issues faced by the supported business.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
Experience in managing and executing cross border/multi-jurisdictional debt finance structures (eg.
bilateral lending, syndicated lending, acquisition finance, export credit agency financing, project finance).
Experience gained from a reputable law firm and/or equivalent in-house legal role in the financial industry.
More than 7 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice) with strong technical legal expertise in banking and finance law and proven ability to exercise excellent judgement in the identification and management of legal risk.
Strong understanding of the specific business and region supported by the role, including the products distributed by the business and its customers.
Ability to deliver timely legal advice in a way that helps the business achieve its commercial objectives whilst understanding legal risk.
A well-developed risk radar and confidence to speak-up and escalate risks appropriately.
Strong ability to work at pace with care.
