AUSTRAC is conducting bulk recruitment for lawyers across a range of teams and classification levels. This recruitment process will be used to fill current vacancies and build a merit pool for future roles in the next 18 months.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for candidates with skills in statutory interpretation, legal research, and analysis, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities. The ideal applicant will be able to clearly and concisely convey legal advice, while assisting to develop practical and legally sound solutions. In addition, the ability to work effectively in a team, while also being comfortable working independently with supervision, is important. Strong organisational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure will be highly valued.
Position context
These roles are positioned within the Legal Section of the Legal and Enforcement Branch, where they provide expert legal advice and services of the highest quality. AUSTRAC's in-house legal team supports the agency across its executive, regulatory, intelligence, and corporate functions, offering guidance on a broad spectrum of legal matters, including:
Enforcement-related issues and litigation Statutory interpretation Privacy, commercial, property, and employment law The Legal Section is led by three Directors/Principal Lawyers, each overseeing one of three key legal streams:
Intelligence, Corporate and Privacy & Information Access Guidance & Reform Regulation, Enforcement & Litigation While Lawyers will be assigned to a specific legal stream, the agency values flexibility and collaboration.
