The Principal Audit Manager works in a small team within the Financial Audit Branch, responsible for planning, conducting and reporting on independent audits.
The Principal Audit Manager is accountable to an Executive Director/Assistant Auditor-General (Financial Audit) for:
the effective management of a team of audit professionals and planning, conducting and reporting on independent financial compliance audits of significant public sector agencies and reviews of internal controls autonomously initiating, planning, conducting and reporting on issues of special significance and areas warranting extended audit reviews contributing significantly to the development and implementation of corporate and annual plan strategies. The expectation is that you will be appointed at our ASO7 salary level. Consideration will be given to a higher salary if you can demonstrate higher level skills and experience (see the role description for details).
During the audit report period, you will be working additional hours, and compensation is provided.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
demonstrated ability in applying accounting and auditing standards and practices to resolve complex issues demonstrated experience in interpreting legislation understanding of and ability to apply government accountability frameworks demonstrated ability to apply a high standard of professional scepticism and critical analysis highly developed leadership skills demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, in particular a record of communicating complex and/or sensitive concepts and issues effectively demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships, in particular the ability to maintain a sound ongoing relationship whilst dealing with adversarial or conflict situations. To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have:
completed an appropriate Bachelor level degree in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting), recognised in Australia under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), or an appropriate degree recognised by the Auditor-General full membership of a professional accounting body, recognised by the Auditor-General Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident at the time of applying.
