Primary objective: Receive, assess, evaluate, and effectively conciliate complaints in accordance with the powers and functions of the Anti-Discrimination Commission and engage with stakeholders.
Context statement: The suitable candidate will possess personal values and be committed to working towards the objectives of the Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1992 (the act). They will possess the necessary personal qualities to conduct this type of work.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Assess complaints to determine if they disclose grounds for acceptance under the provisions of the Act. Conciliate complaints throughout the complaint process. Write complex decisions in accordance with the requirements under the Act. Conduct evaluations of accepted complaints for the purpose of determining if there is evidence of discrimination to refer to hearing. Respond to large numbers of enquiries from the public and private sector regarding discrimination issues. Conduct training and information sessions for the public on the principles of equal opportunity, anti-discrimination law and the Commission's functions and conciliation process as required. Selection criteria:
Essential:
An understanding of contemporary views of equal opportunity and relevant administrative law and practice. Highly developed analytical and oral and written communication skills including experience writing complex legal decisions (or equivalent), simplified correspondence, training, and community engagement. Training and substantial experience and demonstrated skills in the effective practice of alternative dispute resolution. Experience and understanding of contemporary practices in complaint handling and the conduct of evaluations (or equivalent). Proven time management skills and ability to prioritise and self-manage a large workload with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to interact with people at all levels and work well as part of a small, highly motivated team. Desirable:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (social sciences, law) or equivalent experience. Cross-cultural awareness, understanding and knowledge. Specific experience in resolution of disputes by conciliation. Experience in conducting investigations for a statutory body. #J-18808-Ljbffr
