Astro Aero Pty Ltd (AA) is based in Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia. The company has been established to design, manufacture and type certify a new turboprop utility aircraft. AA is seeking motivated and talented team players to join a growing team of engineers, draftspersons and technicians developing this innovative aircraft.
The Position The Manufacturing Engineer is an essential part of the Manufacturing Team who interfaces with the Engineering Design Team to develop manufacturing data and appropriate processes. This role also includes the conceptual development of jigs, workflow and manufacturing techniques to produce prototype aircraft structures. The Manufacturing Engineer will be a professional engineer responsible for the approval of manufacturing data where applicable.
Responsibilities of the Position The successful candidate will be responsible to:
Act as liaison between design engineering and manufacturing teams, Provide input on manufacturing aspects as part of the design review process. Use engineering 3D CAD models to identify and plan manufacturing processes used in the build of aircraft structures (CATIA V5). Utilise the company PLM system to review engineering design data (3DX). Develop and provide input to new or special manufacturing process specifications. Maintain a database of standard and specially developed manufacturing processes. Design, plan and review tooling, jig and workflow designs. Create, develop and maintain manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM) where required. Prepare or review production certificate procedures related to future aircraft manufacture. Ensure that design specifications and requirements are met with respect to manufacturing standards. Prepare manufacturing work instructions. Develop solutions to ongoing manufacturing, assembly and production problems and constraints. Participate in supplier selection and audits in relation to supplier capabilities and quality system. Where required, approve manufacturing data related to the building of aircraft structures. The Candidate To be successful in this role, you will be a highly organised self-starter who has experience in the manufacturing aircraft, aircraft component or related industry. You must have a proven track record and strong experience in the aviation regulatory environment. A working knowledge of aviation production certificate quality systems would be highly regarded. The candidate must be creative, forward-thinking, self-motivated, with the ability to work in a team of like-minded development engineers.
Required Skills The candidate must be able to demonstrate the following key attributes:
Demonstrated experience in the Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) of aircraft structures. Practical acumen for the manufacture, assembly and production of aircraft structures. Sound understanding of techniques and processes used in the production of metallic aircraft structures. Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD design data and/or process specifications. Experience in aircraft jig, tooling and workflow design. Experience in applying regulations relevant to an aircraft production quality system. Highly proficient at using CAD design tools such as CATIA V5. Ability to effectively communicate at a wide variety of levels within the company. Suitably qualified and experienced for registration as a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ) as and when required by the company. Highly Regarded Skills Recent PLM/PDM experience. A working knowledge of the mechanics of aircraft sheet metal forming and component machining practices. Basic understanding of the AS9100 Quality System. Experience A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline. A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in aviation manufacture and production environment. LEAN or Six Sigma Training would be highly regarded.
