We are seeking to appoint an ongoing full-time Associate to support his Honour Judge Wise. His Honour currently sits in the Court's Commercial Division and is the Judge in Charge of the Banking and Finance List.The County Court of Victoria has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in Victoria, hearing over 11,000 criminal and civil cases each year. Since 1 January 2007, the County Court has had an unlimited monetary jurisdiction in civil matters and has concurrent jurisdiction with the Supreme Court in almost all commercial litigation. Following the removal of the monetary limit on the Court's jurisdiction and the appointment of additional judges with commercial expertise, the commercial work of the court has grown in both size and complexity, with over 2,000 commercial initiations in 2018-19. The work of the Commercial Division now constitutes approximately 45% of the court's civil jurisdiction.As the Associate, you will provide operational, administrative, and technical legal support to the Judge both in chambers and in court. The role involves case file management, a strong emphasis on communication at all levels, and legal research and writing.You will have a legal background, the drive to succeed, the ability to perform under pressure, and the capacity to work well in a small team.
