The Reef Catchments Science Partnership (RCSP) is a collaboration between the University of Queensland, the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.

Full-time, fixed-term position for up to 3 years
Base salary will be in the range of $162,046.55 - $178,367.57 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level D)

About This Opportunity
We are seeking an outstanding Associate Professor to lead a research collaboration between UQ and the Queensland Department of Environment, Science & Innovation (DESI) in catchment pollution science, as part of the Reef Catchments Science Partnership.
This initiative focuses on developing advanced methods for land and water quality monitoring and modelling to protect the Great Barrier Reef, meet Queensland and international obligations, and support water quality improvement programs.
We are particularly interested in candidates with interdisciplinary research expertise in areas such as Ecotoxicology, Water Quality, Hydrology, Environmental Risk Assessments, and related fields.
As an Associate Professor, you will leverage your established record of excellence in teaching, research impact, service and collaboration.

Key responsibilities will include:
Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.

Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You
Applicants should possess a PhD in a field relevant to environmental and aquatic toxicology Ecotoxicology, Water Quality, Hydrology, Environmental Risk Assessments, Catchment Restoration, Monitoring and Evaluation related to Nutrients, Sediments, Pesticides, Metals, Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products.
Additionally, you will demonstrate:
Expert knowledge in the discipline area with an ability to apply systems thinking to 'wicked' environmental challenges.

National and international recognition in your area of expertise and a strong record of publications in reputed refereed journals and conferences.

Ability to successfully lead a research team, and mentor less experienced staff and early career academics.

Evidence of outstanding contributions to teaching.

Evidence of high-level success in maintaining partnerships with government and industry, supported by securing significant external grant funds.

An established record of delivering tangible outputs to external research partners including industry and/or government.

An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the discipline area at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.

Ability to communicate research outcomes and impacts to a range of audiences, including policy and planning decision makers, industry and community stakeholders.

Strong national and international industry liaisons and professional contacts.

About the Selection Process
Please note that seminars, mock lectures may be scheduled for December 3 and December 4 and interviews may be scheduled for December 5 2024, with the shortlisted candidates.
As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a seminar and mock lecture to members of the school community prior to their scheduled interview.
