Job Description

Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Managing Partner, an associate will be responsible for assisting the partners and senior associates of OLCL with client work and ancillary operational matters. The main responsibilities of the role will be providing quality Cayman Islands legal advice and assisting the partners to drive client-centred innovation, business development and team management initiatives to ensure that OLCL meets its ongoing objectives. The postholder will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of basic legal transactions. If applicable, the postholder will also be responsible for delegating tasks to junior members of the team and participating in other team initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

Organic growth and expansion

assist with the development and communication of OLCL's strategic direction in a way that inspires, educates, includes and reassures;
implement an effective business development and cross-selling plan which results in increased profits directly linked to the initiatives set out in it;
represent OLCL in dealings with other law firms, governmental bodies and other firms and organisations who are involved in client matters;
seek client feedback and adept to market expectations;
prepare articles, thought-pieces and social media updates;

Operational excellence

deliver a client-centric service;
understand and follow policies and procedures adopted to protect OLCL's staff members, clients and assets;
assist with knowledge management and information-sharing initiatives;
embrace, and provide constructive feedback on, technology deployed by OLCL;

People and talent management

demonstrate leadership capabilities;
assist with the management and development of junior team members, including paralegals, articled clerks and secretaries (where applicable);
assist the partners to maintain a positive and productive working environment;
encourage staff-led growth and training initiatives;

Financial management

support OLCL's profitability and implement procedures for appropriate matter management, including the preparation of fee proposals, matter resourcing, time recording, invoicing, collections and cost-management; and

Ancillary

perform any other activities which may reasonably be required in connection with the role.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Experienced professional with at least 5 years' post-qualification experience in the legal profession.
Proven knowledge of Cayman Islands legal matters in one or more of OLCL's practice areas.
Ability to independently manage and maintain a book of clients.
Demonstrate strong business development, marketing and client relationship skills by developing and implementing outcome focused strategies for existing clients.
Strong management and communication skills.
Proven practice management, time management and organisational skills.
High level of integrity and excellent presentation skills.
