About the Role
The Associate Lecturer will teach into the first-year Science Discovery subject, "Today's Science, Tomorrow's World," supporting Subject and Investigation Coordinators and acting as a key link between them and students. Responsibilities include delivering classes, seminars, tutorials, and workshops, as well as providing coordination, administration, and student support through weekly sessions, marking, and engagement activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
Support the delivery of the first-year Science Discovery subject through teaching, coordination, and student engagement. Coordinate activities of the Tutors for the Science Discovery subject, including delivery of some tutorials and lectures where appropriate. Liaise with the Tutors and subject coordinator to ensure effective delivery of subject content. Participate in School meetings, workshops and events such as Open Day and other outreach programs. Assist with the online operation of the subject, including checking subject content and functionality. Who We Are Looking For
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining material clearly and constructively. You will be highly organised, with the ability to manage your time, coordinate teaching activities, and plan practical work. You will also demonstrate initiative, work well both independently and in teams, and be enthusiastic, adaptable, flexible, and eager to learn and teach.
You will also have:
A higher degree (e.g., Masters or PhD) in geography, earth science, atmospheric science or cognate discipline. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of climate change and environmental sustainability. Evidence of contributions in lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs. A demonstrated ability to interact productively with other academic staff and to contribute constructively to the activities and administration of the School, the Faculty and the University. This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
