Western Sydney University has established a sector-leading program to strengthen career pathways for casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full time positions by 1 March 2025. The WSU decasualisation program will play a significant role in reducing the level of insecure work in the Australian higher education sector. With this in mind, the University is looking to recruit candidates it can invest in and develop over the long term, including training over the confirmation period to support candidates to retain stable, ongoing employment.
Successful candidates will undertake teaching, while also having the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and contribute to the University through governance activities at the School and/or University level.
About the School of Engineering, Design & Built Environment
The School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment is located in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Cluster, together with the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, the School of Science, the MARCS Institute, and the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment. Operating across three campuses—Penrith, Parramatta South, and Parramatta City—the School offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These programs blend advanced academic knowledge with practical training, catering to various career aspirations in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, and Industrial Design.
The School is renowned for its world-leading research, particularly through its key research concentrations: the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and the Centre for Smart Modern Construction. This is a full-time, ongoing position commencing from March 2025. This position is based at Western's Parramatta or Penrith (Kingswood) Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. About You
The appointee will have proven teaching and research experience in the wider field of Geotechnical Engineering with specialisation in Transport Geotechnics, especially in one or more of the following areas:
Ground improvement and soil stabilisation Geomaterials in construction Soil-structure interactions Deep excavation and tunnelling Transport in porous media If you are passionate about advancing knowledge and education in these critical areas, we encourage you to apply and join our innovative team at Western Sydney University!
Eligibility
Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and must provide evidence at the time of application that they:
have been engaged as a casual academic for at least 2 teaching sessions within the previous 2 years at an Australian Higher Education institution; and hold or have submitted all requirements for a PhD or other relevant Level 10 AQF qualification; and have not previously held an ongoing position with an Australian Higher Education provider in the previous 3 years. Candidates must submit evidence of the above requirements and any evidence they have of successful teaching results, such as Student Feedback on Teaching survey outcomes, at the time of application.
Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $109,861 to $132,730 p.a. (comprising Salary of $92,834 to $112,158 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
