Associate – Financing & Advisory

Responsibilities We are currently recruiting for an Associate to join our Financing & Advisory Group based in Sydney, Australia to support the origination and execution activities across a broad range of structured finance transactions, particularly within the energy & renewables sector across Australia and New Zealand. The candidate will also work with other business lines within Financing & Advisory such as Infrastructure, Digital, Mining & Metals, and Real Estate. This role is suited to a candidate who has experience at senior Analyst or Associate level. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organization more broadly on a regional and global basis. Primary responsibilities include: Preparing, customizing, optimizing, and maintaining the financial model supporting advisory mandates, including creating and running financial scenarios and sensitivities. Interrogating the financial model for financing mandates including creating and running of sensitivities and checking integrity. Ability to review and, where appropriate, supervise financial modelling tasks undertaken by junior staff, and completing more complex modelling tasks where required. Staying abreast of developments across sectors, particularly the energy & renewables sector, as well as current transactions and opportunities in the market. Providing day-to-day transaction support including structuring, pricing, preparing of credit applications, undertaking detailed financial analyses and due diligence analyses, and assisting the deal team leader to provide best-in-class lending and advisory services to the client base. Respecting all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements in relation to the execution of advisory & lending transactions. Managing internal processes relating to the arranging and advisory business (e.g., updating databases, credit application writing, completing relevant internal system-based processes). Identifying potential marketing opportunities and preparing pitch material (including reviewing feasibility studies, detailed analysis of financial models, etc.). Starting to establish a network of contacts at key clients and prospective clients. Supervision/development of junior team members including appropriate delegation and review of certain tasks suitable to the skills and experience of those junior team members whilst maintaining a high quality of overall team execution. Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required: University degree in a relevant discipline (Finance, Engineering, Business, Commerce, Law) or a professional financial qualification. Postgraduate qualifications considered favourably. Experience in energy & renewables finance and sector knowledge, debt or equity advisory, and/or another structured finance environment utilizing similar tools, processes, and procedures will also be favourably considered. 3-5 years' relevant experience at senior Analyst or Associate level. Advanced Microsoft Excel including strong financial modelling skills. Experience in generating pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients' needs. Strong numerical skills with an advanced understanding of accounting concepts, financial statements, and cash flows. Experience of working (including remotely) with people with diverse, international backgrounds and acting on team priorities. Functional Relationships: Internal: staff from business divisions and support functions locally, regionally, and globally.
External: clients, prospects, and external advisors (e.g., lenders, legal counsel, technical consultants).
