We are currently recruiting an Associate Director/ Senior Analyst (Previous title Associate) to join our Sustainable Finance team within our Ratings practice, to be based out of our Tokyo office. Candidates based out of Hong Kong, Singapore or Australia would also be considered, provided that they had achieved a minimum of JLPT N2 level Japanese proficiency . He or she would specifically be working on ESG and sustainable finance assignments and research, and contribute to the development, application and roll out of new products in the ESG and sustainable finance space. He or she would be reporting to Bertrand Jabouley (Singapore), Head of the Sustainable Finance team in APAC.
Responsibilities: Leading, as a Sustainable Finance specialist, individual assignments on ESG and sustainable financing instruments and frameworks, in Japan and/or in APAC depending on the business pipeline; Building a subject matter expertise to support ESG in ratings, i.e., interacting with credit rating analytical teams to facilitate the inclusion of appropriate environmental, social, and governance factors in credit risk analysis and industry-based publications; As the key representative of the team for Japan, becoming a spokesperson for the company in external engagements (market outreach, customer interactions...); Conducting research and analysis on ESG themes, and how these could impact organisations in Japan and the wider region over the short, medium and long term. This work should result in the publication of research commentaries that are widely read by the investment community; and Contributing to the development/enhancement of our analytical approached. What We're Looking For: A Bachelor's degree with some courses in sustainability, finance, social and environmental management. A science-based qualification would be an asset. Either relevant Master's degree or CFA Charterholder would be a plus. Employees at this level within S&P Global typical possess at least 7 years of relevant work experience. A few years of experience in the sustainable finance/ ESG team of a bank, a corporate or a consultancy Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English. Ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to work independently and be resourceful, gathering information from various internal and external sources to summarise trends and themes. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Collaborative and team-oriented mindset. Ability to work on Excel to manipulate data from databases with charting, pivot tables and other formulas, such as lookup functions and logical tests.
