Job Purpose The successful candidate will be appointed permanently in the Department as an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer and will be appointed as a Rotational HOD in line with the rotational HOD guidelines for a 5-year period. At the expiry of the 5-years rotational HOD appointment, the incumbent will revert back to the level at which the appointment was made on a permanent basis – Associate Professorial/Senior Lecturer level, whichever level is relevant.
The Head of Department must take a leadership role within the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) department for managing, leading and providing direction to a team of academic and support staff.Management of the department as a member of the Faculty Executive.Ensure that the Department and Faculty strategic goals are realized in line with the institutional strategic goals.The incumbent will oversee the development of the new qualifications in the department.The successful candidate must teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and must be actively involved in research and post graduate supervision.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience A relevant Doctoral qualification in Education or related fieldA four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant teaching qualificationAt least six (6) years' relevant teaching experience in higher educationRecord of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferencesPost-graduate students supervised to completion relevant to the Education fieldApplied and demonstrable knowledge of the TVET sectorKnowledge of educational policy and practice relating to post school educationRecipient of research grants and awardsExperience as an external examiner/moderatorExperience in curriculum developmentKnowledge of the HEQSF processesProven evidence of leadership qualitiesExperience in financial management and budgetingExperience in evaluating Teaching Practice and knowledge of Industry WILMinimum Requirements: Senior Lecturer A relevant Doctoral qualification in Education or related fieldA four (4) year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant teaching qualificationAt least four (4) years relevant teaching experience in higher educationApplied and demonstrable knowledge of the TVET sectorKnowledge of educational policy and practice relating to post school educationExperience in research and post graduate supervision of students to completionExperience in curriculum developmentProven evidence of leadership qualitiesKnowledge of HEQSF processExperience in financial management and budgetingExperience in evaluating Teaching Practice and knowledge of Industry WILExperience as external examiner/moderatorA record of research and publications, preferably in the field of EducationHigh standing nationally in a related Education fieldPrevious experience in a similar position or at an equivalent or higher levelMinimum requirements: Head of Department A relevant Doctoral qualification in Education or related fieldA four-year undergraduate degree in Education/A relevant teaching qualificationA minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, of which three (3) years' must be as a Senior Lecturer or aboveThe five (5) years mentioned above must include two (2) years' experience in evaluating Teaching Practice as well as two (2) years' management experience related to the functions of an HOD (i.e academic management; curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a Department)Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or aboveKey Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Provision of leadership to the TPD programmeImplementation of the department and faculty strategic goals in line with the institutional strategic goalsA member of the Faculty Executive, SENATE and other faculty committeesAcademic management and administrationAcademic leadershipOversight of new programme accreditation and registration processesOversee the placement and evaluation of students in industry WIL and teaching practiceTeaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levelConducting and promoting/management of research in the department and innovation activitiesCommunity engagement and involvement in extra-curricular activitiesSupervision of students during teaching practiceCurriculum and programme developmentChange facilitationCoaching and mentoringPersonal and professional development and implementationEngagement and building partnerships (Networking with schools and other partners)General Information Closing Date: 19 January 2025
