The role:
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Transport Manager seeking a new challenge. In this role, you will manage and supervise our client's driver workforce across Essex. This position offers a chance to expand your knowledge and experience in the industry while working closely with our operations team.
Key responsibilities: Adhere to and promote a safe working environment. Assist with executing the daily plan for all deliveries and collections, with a keen eye on resource available at site and keep the customer updated. Manage an efficient and robust driver roster, looking for ways to increase area utilisation and efficiency. Monitor driver's hours, vehicle cleanliness and vehicle checks. Ensure all related Transport documents are properly completed, whilst assisting in the companies drive to a paperless solution. Responsibility for a safe working environment, including but not limited to any safety related investigations or audits. Liaise with Driver Training providers to ensure drivers are kept up to date with all aspects of training as well as monitoring behaviour improvements where possible. Assist with investigations into non-compliance. Liaise with Customers on specific region requirements around driver inductions / delivery qualifications / driver numbers / Vehicle numbers. Required to cover numerous depots so the ability to travel independently. Cross pollination of holiday cover required for other Local Transport Managers. Efficiently and accurately despatching drivers with all relevant paperwork. Prepare letters, minutes, notes and other clerical support to officers as appropriate and as directed by the programme manager. Use initiative, tact and diplomacy in responding to queries, escalate issues and problems which arise to senior manager in the absence of the transport manager. About you: Demonstrable administration skills. A team player with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. An approachable and reliable attitude. Experience working in a busy Transport office desirable. Strong communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal. Knowledge of the WTD, Drivers Hours, Tachograph and Transport legislation preferable. Ability to prioritize own workload but also be able to work as part of a team. IT skills e.g., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and CRM systems. On offer: Up to £38K DOE. 28 days annual leave (Inc Bank Holidays). Additional holidays based on length of service.
