Assistant Secretary Civil Maritime Strategy and PolicyCanberra ACTThe Australian Border Force (ABF)The Australian Border Force (ABF) is responsible for reinforcing the Commonwealth's focus on the border as a strategic national asset. Charged with significant operational, compliance and enforcement responsibilities, the ABF brings together the full spectrum of operational border management across maritime terrorism; prohibited imports and exports; marine pollution; illegal exploitation of natural resources; illegal activity in protected areas; compromise to biosecurity; piracy, robbery or violence at sea and unauthorized maritime arrivals.Role OverviewBe part of something bigger and make a difference to the nation. Contribute to building a prosperous, secure and united Australia – work in a challenging but rewarding role that touches many parts of Australian life.Key DutiesThe Civil Maritime Capability Division, within Strategy and Capability Group, enables the delivery of Australia's Civil Maritime Capability Program. By connecting strategic thinking with tactical needs through deliberate program management, the Division takes a whole-of-program view to deliver long-term multi-billion-dollar capabilities while remaining flexible to solve complex day-to-day challenges. We plan, identify, evaluate, acquire and sustain the capability and operational infrastructure that enables Australia to fully protect sovereign jurisdiction and uphold our international obligations and treaty arrangements offshore.The Assistant Secretary Civil Maritime Strategy and Policy is responsible for the oversight of the ABF's civil maritime strategic planning, capability planning and policy (Cabinet) program. They undertake strategic engagement, advice and communication, ensuring the prioritization of issues for consideration by Government. We are looking for high calibre officers, who will accept the challenges associated with advancing the ABF's objectives while developing, amongst others, the values of integrity, respect and diversity.To be successful in this role you will:Be an accomplished leader, with a strong track record in delivering operational outcomes or significant policy and strategy outcomes.Demonstrate an ability to lead in a large, operationally complex organization and be adept at crafting and delivering enterprise-wide policy, legislative, compliance and operational solutions.Have the proven ability to forge clear directions and deliver large and complex policy projects within tight timeframes.Display political acumen, superior communication and demonstrated capacity to effectively collaborate across Government and with international and industry stakeholders.Have experience in contributing to, influencing and implementing strategic initiatives.Minimum RequirementsBe an Australian Citizen.Obtain and maintain a security clearance at a minimum of Negative Vetting 2.Obtain and maintain Department based clearances.NotesThis role is currently based in Canberra ACT, other locations may be considered by exception.
