Maritime Safety Queensland - Assistant Regional Harbour Master – Northern PortsStrategic leadership opportunity with State GovernmentGreat impact on direction of Queensland maritime industry in North QueenslandDelivering tangible benefits and value to the communityMaritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is a branch of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) within the Customer Services, Safety and Regulation (CSSR) Division.
Our role in MSQ is to protect Queensland's waterways and the people who use them - providing safer, cleaner seas.In the role of Assistant Regional Harbour Master (ARHM), you will support the Regional Harbour Master (RHM) as the senior point of contact within the region, responsible for liaising and collaborating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders on maritime safety issues, maintaining MSQ's legislation and standards, and delivering services in line with whole of government strategic directions.The ARHM will support the RHM to ensure high levels of preparedness and assist the Executive Director (Port Operations and Vessel Traffic Services) in delivering support and services across the portfolio.
The ARHM will also provide relief as a Regional Harbour Master in any region, act as designated incident controller or step into other senior maritime roles across MSQ regions and functions as needed.In this role, you will be responsible for managing the safe movement of shipping in and around Queensland Pilotage Areas, ensuring efficient vessel scheduling and enhancing Vessel Traffic Services.
You will oversee the service delivery and regulation of Pilotage Standards, including licensing, auditing, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.
Additionally, you will build and maintain strategic partnerships with Port Authorities, Waterway Authorities, and all levels of government to support efficient port operations and foster industry growth.The ARHM requires a strategic leader with maritime experience (both ashore and sea-going) and a proven track record of success as a leader within a large, complex, and decentralised organisation.
You possess a high level of knowledge and understanding of maritime safety matters and industry developments at the departmental, state, national, and international level, including their implications for MSQ, the Department, and the government of the day.With strong stakeholder management skills, you will develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including equivalent agencies in other states, local government, authorities, and industry bodies, to negotiate and influence outcomes on behalf of MSQ.
