The Department of Literature, Folklore & the Arts in the School of Arts and Social Sciences atCape Breton Universityinvites applications for a full-time limited term position in English at the rank of Assistant Professor (or Lecturer depending on qualifications), with possibility for renewal. This position will commence August 1 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and will conclude June 30, 2025.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to providing students with an exceptional first-year English experience. The successful candidate will primarily teach Reading and Writing courses at the 1000-level, with a course loading of 3-3, although there is potential to teach an upper-level course depending on enrollment and other staffing considerations. Special attention will be paid to candidates with insight into the first-year experience of Indigenous, Black, and/or international students.
Candidates should possess at minimum a Masters in English or a related discipline (e.g. Writing Studies) with an evident literary focus, although candidates with a PhD in English, or a Masters in English plus lived experience of Indigenous or black communities will be preferred. Candidates who have completed all of the requirements for a relevant PhD but for an unfinished dissertation, may be considered for the rank of Lecturer.
CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line as needed.The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload.While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
