Assistant Principal Special Education - General - Padstow Heights Public School Padstow Heights Public School is located in South - West Sydney and has a student enrolment of 303. The school culture is that of genuine care for one another and connectedness, inclusion and belonging. Students, staff, parents and the wider community work together to promote school excellence.
In 2025, the school will be organised into 11 mainstream classes and establishing 3 support classes. The Assistant Principal Special Education will establish the routines for the Support Unit, teach one of the 3 support classes in the school, lead and supervise the support class teaching and support staff, and will oversee all aspects of teaching and learning for students. The Assistant Principal is part of the school leadership team along with the Principal, Deputy Principal and 4 Assistant Principals.
Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex learning and behavioural needs within a Support Unit, and foster positive relationships with students, their families and outside agencies. Demonstrated capacity and experience in balancing exemplary classroom practice and coordination of the role of Assistant Principal, to lead the effective establishment of a newly developed Support Unit. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to collaborate with school teams for individualised support, transition, behaviour and wellbeing needs to promote the inclusion of students with multifaceted needs. Proven ability to lead and develop evidence-based and evaluative practices to implement high quality differentiated curriculum, including the development of individualised learning programs that maximise student engagement, with a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students.
General Selection Criteria
Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
