Who we are 
The People and Policy Branch are the front line of human resources for the department. We deliver timely and accurate responses to various client groups and support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusting relationships with employees and business areas. We offer general and specialist HR advice and case management services for issues related to workplace relations, performance, probation, attendance, behaviour and workplace rehabilitation. The branch also includes a dedicated team that support our Senior Executive Service (SES) cohort and overseas deployments.

The SES Unit manages all SES recruitment activities including:

• onboarding and internal movements
• SES annual performance processes and talent management initiatives across the SES cohort
• individual determinations applicable to the SES cohort
• providing advice on the application of terms and conditions for the department's overseas counsellor network.

The Jobs
As an Assistant Director you will have well-developed organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and a desire to lead a small team from the front. The successful applicants must have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to foster relationships in order to deliver high quality advice and support to stakeholders.

The duties of the roles include, but are not limited to:

• managing all SES/Overseas Postings recruitment activities (internal and external), including liaising with recruiting managers and external providers
• overseeing onboarding arrangements for new SES employees and employees on Overseas Posting, including liaising with other relevant support staff (e.g. IT, Security, Property, Executive Officers and Executive Assistants)
• providing advice about SES and Overseas Posting conditions of service and individual arrangements
• managing SES/Overseas Posting movements (internal and external), temporary assignments and secondments
• driving the annual SES performance process, including participation and compliance
• implementing talent management initiatives that align with the APSC's SES Performance Leadership Framework
• supporting SES/Overseas Posting cessations
• managing Executive and SES/Overseas Posting reporting activities including: 
- SES cap reporting
- the development of Executive Remuneration Reports for the Annual Report
• establishing and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
• providing interpretations of information to formulate defensible decisions and recommendations to resolve complex matters
• providing advice on SES/Overseas Posting matters to the Chief People Officer.

Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill two vacancies in the section and that the roles may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant would be employed for a period of twelve months initially with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years. If filled on a non-ongoing basis it should be noted that the position may become ongoing in the next 18 months which may result in the successful applicant being offered ongoing employment. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
