Assistant Director PLT VIC - INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY Location: Melbourne VIC
Purpose of the Role The Assistant Director PLT is responsible for supporting the Executive Director in ensuring the successful delivery of the College's Practical Legal Training (PLT) Program in Victoria and together with the other Assistant Directors will lead across the following key areas: student support, cooperative programs, external stakeholder management and PLT curriculum / content. In addition, they will share line management responsibility for the COLV academic team.
As one of a team of Assistant Directors, an Assistant Director will be allocated (subject to acceptable workload limits), at various times any or any combination of, the following key accountabilities:
1. Course and curriculum management
Give guidance to the planning and timetabling of the COLV PLT schedule. Ensure the efficient delivery of all courses and modes within the COLV PLT program Ensure compliance with the policies and standards determined by the College of Law's Academic Board Teach, as required, across all PLT courses, including work experience replacement courses. 2. Lecture management
Assist the Executive Director with the recruitment of academic staff Provide training & mentoring for academic staff including the adjunct lecturers Assist with the professional development of academic staff, as appropriate 3. Student Management
Responsibility for student welfare in the context of the VIC PLT Program, including addressing any special needs as appropriate Responsibility for the investigation, management and reporting of academic conduct matters in accordance with College policy and the provisions of the PLT Program Manual 4. External relationships
Develop and maintain the College's relationship with key stakeholders 5. Cooperative course management
Under the guidance of the Executive Director, oversee the administration, teaching and successful delivery of all Victorian PLT cooperative courses 6. Academic leadership
Exercise academic leadership locally and/or across the College group Model and foster best practice in teaching and professional development Train and mentor lecturing staff including adjunct lecturers 7. Intellectual and Professional
As applicable in accordance with objectives: · Attend and present at relevant conferences and share knowledge and insights gained with the wider faculty
· Carry out research and produce publications, or other research outputs
8. Contribute to the corporate life of the College
Assist with strategic development, participate in development of new education and training capabilities and identification of new areas of business activity A more detailed position description is attached
About you Education/Qualifications A tertiary qualification in law is essential. A tertiary qualification in law or education at Masters level (or in pursuit thereof) or equivalent senior professional experience, is desirable. Experience, Skills and Attributes Essential An understanding of the strategic context of the legal profession and the public it serves. Substantial experience in legal practice and currently eligible to hold a Victorian Practicing Certificate. The ability to direct and manage the operation of COLV PLT as a successful business unit. A proven capacity to lead and develop a team of professionals. Experience in teaching at a Graduate level. Substantial experience teaching PLT programs. The ability to develop and maintain internal and external client and stakeholder relationships. Desirable Experience in strategic business planning and budget management. A proven track record in educational leadership at a senior level. A proven track record in the maintenance of high academic and other standards appropriate to accredited higher education courses. Understanding of, and experience in, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL). Experience in project management.
