Assistant Director People Support (Affirmative Measure – First Nations)Who we are
The People Support Section is the front line of human resources (HR) for the department, supporting our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service and building trusted relationships. People Support offers general HR advice including conditions of employment, along with specialised case management services for issues related to performance, probation, attendance, behaviour early intervention and rehabilitation. The team's operating environment is driven by the needs of our business and its people, and whole-of-APS and department-specific HR policies and programs. The section currently has one vacancy (Melbourne).
The Job
The successful applicant will:
• lead and manage a team (both locally based and/or geographically dispersed) to provide a comprehensive level of HR support including conditions of employment
• oversee the resolution of complex/high-risk matters, and case management issues related to performance, probation, attendance and behaviour
• oversee the preparation of complex and sensitive correspondence, briefs, and documentation in a timely manner for senior executives and courts/arbitrators
• communicate with influence to provide accurate specialist advice and assistance to staff and make and communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge
• work in close partnership and collaboration with internal/external stakeholders.
Please note that this recruitment process will be used to fill one ongoing vacancy in Melbourne. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the division from any of the locations listed above where the duties are of a similar nature.
What we are looking for Knowledge and experience
The successful applicant will have:
• demonstrated experience in utilising judgement and discretion to manage complex and sensitive HR matters
• demonstrated experience leading a team managing complex people issues
• experience working in a fast-paced role within a government setting
• demonstrated experience applying the employment framework and relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Public Service Act 1999, Fair Work Act 2009 and Privacy Act 1988.
