People Smuggling Intelligence (PSI) is the Australian Government's assessment lead on the threat of maritime people smuggling to Australia.
PSI acts as an all-source intelligence fusion cell, combining reporting from across the National Intelligence Community (NIC) to understand and assess push/pull factors influencing potential irregular immigrants (PIIs) to join irregular maritime ventures, PIIs' perception of Australia's border policies, and the intent and capability of people smugglers. PSI's assessments inform critical operational and policy decision making by the Joint Agency Task Force Operation Sovereign Borders (JATF OSB) and senior decision makers.
Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the maritime people smuggling threat environment. Understand customer intelligence requirements to tailor intelligence products that meet customers' needs. Assemble, analyse and present highly complex information and intelligence in writing and through verbal briefing to inform JATF OSB and senior policymakers in a timely manner, including by using classified and open source information. Evaluate the source reliability, content validity and relevance of information supporting the production of highly complex or sensitive intelligence products. Supervise, mentor and develop staff to assist with their professional development by co-designing career/tradecraft pathways that meet short to long term goals of each individual and the team. Minimum Requirements: Applicants must hold a TSPV security clearance to be eligible to apply for and perform this role. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. A demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, including by integrating different inputs and perspectives, evaluating contested information and drawing out strategic implications and judgments. A proven ability to contribute as a senior team member, including through mentoring and assisting other staff or supporting team planning and execution. A willingness to operate in a high-tempo work environment. Previous experience in an intelligence role.
