The RoleThe Department of Defence is seeking an experienced nurse in the role of Assistant Director Overseas Health. This is a dynamic and complex role responsible for managing the overseas health portfolio through the provision of support and advice to ADF and APS personnel, their dependants, and key Defence stakeholders. These stakeholders will include representatives from Joint Health Command, Career Management Agencies, Defence Attaché Overseas Management, the Overseas Administration Team, and the wider Overseas Defence footprint.The successful candidate will exercise a considerable degree of independence in the conduct of their duties. They will be responsible for leading their small team in oversight and facilitation of health services for members and their families posted overseas. This will include conducting clinical reviews to ensure ADF and APS members and their families are suitable to proceed, extend or return to overseas posting locations, as well as providing health advice to members within their portfolio. They will also provide technical support, oversight of and management for individuals with complex needs when required.The Assistant Director Overseas Health must have sound decision-making skills, judgment, and the ability to interpret and apply relevant Defence policy. They will be responsible for reviewing the health services provided in overseas locations to inform policy decisions to ensure future service delivery remains safe and effective.About our TeamJoint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service. This care is extended to ADF and Australian Public Service (APS) members and their families who are posted to overseas positions.The EL 1 Assistant Director Overseas Health position is part of the Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) within the Garrison Health Branch of JHC. It is based at Campbell Park Offices, ACT. The CAG is a multidisciplinary team of senior healthcare professionals who provide subject matter expert advice and clinical leadership in their respective clinical fields (e.g. doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dentists) to regional health units and various stakeholders. The CAG works in collaboration with the Services (Army, Navy and Air Force), in addition to APS and Contracted Health Professionals.This position reports to the Director Clinical Services.Our Ideal CandidateThe successful applicant will demonstrate extensive nursing experience, critical thinking skills and be proficient at analysing workflows and business processes. They will have the ability to provide recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes, and manage the implementation of agreed actions.The EL 1 Assistant Director Overseas Health will have experience and comprehensive knowledge of the Australian health system to ensure that Defence policy is in equity with these provisions. They are responsible for liaising with the relevant Defence stakeholders in the development, implementation and compliance with policy to ensure that Defence's mission and policy requirements comply with legislative frameworks.They will have experience working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders across all levels, and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. They will have the ability to prioritise their workload when presented with competing priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation are essential.Security ClearanceApplicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Baseline Vetting" level.Mandatory QualificationsRegistered as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
