As the National Commission will not commence until 13 January 2025, this recruitment process is being managed by the Department of Social Services.
As part of Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children 2021-2031 (Safe and Supported), the Australian Government is establishing a legislated, independent and empowered National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People (National Commissioner).
The National Commissioner will be dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights, interests and wellbeing of First Nations children and young people across a range of issues, including the over representation of Indigenous children in out-of-home care.
The National Commission is seeking energetic, motivated and experienced staff to join two new sections which will support the work of the National Commissioner.
The key duties of the position include:Support the development of a forward workplan for the National Commission.Consult with target audiences and stakeholders on the role of the Commissioner.Build and maintain positive relationships using collaborative skills with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders, including state and territory governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners to anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.Lead research and analysis of information and data from a wide range of sources to inform policy and legislation development.Write high quality policy papers including research and discussion papers, consultation papers, briefs, submissions and correspondence.Support the National Commissioner at meetings and other engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders.Supervise and develop staff to build a high performing team through coaching, feedback and encouraging career development.Establish and deliver secretariat and logistical support for the National Commissioner's engagement and consultation program and other engagement as needed.Work closely with other areas within the National Commission and with other agencies including the Department of Social Services, including developing and implementing strategies to improve these connections.Please review the job pack for the full position description.
