Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies Canberra ACT Public Relations & Corporate Affairs (Marketing & Communications) Full time $110,115 - $120,025 +15.4% Superannuation. About the Role The Assistant Director Media and Engagement will work with Senior Executive and staff across the institute to tell the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, including Return of Cultural Heritage, AIATSIS Collection and Research and Education. Duties of the position include: Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations, including managing and coordinating enquiries. Draft clear engaging media releases to generate coverage. Oversee the monitoring of media to provide timely and effective advice. Produce high quality media products such as talking points and speeches. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging. Develop media strategies and work with the Director to execute. Cultural Capability The ideal candidate will be committed to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and will demonstrate cultural capability. This may be demonstrated by: An ability to communicate respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, clients, and colleagues. An understanding of the current issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and how this is framed by history. An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business within the agency and the outcomes the agency is responsible for delivering. Has the capability to privilege Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' voices, experiences, and perspectives in their work.  Our Ideal Candidate We're looking for an experienced media professional with sound judgement and strong writing skills. Key skills include: Previous experience developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including media contacts. Demonstrated experience in producing high quality media collateral including media releases, news stories, video scripts, briefs, speeches, and presentations for various audiences. Knowledge of current digital communication tools such as Meltwater, Isentia, or Streem. Exceptional time management skills, managing multiple and competing priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a high level of adaptability and resilience. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
