Our functions are established under the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
These functions are to:
• provide access to a national collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
culture and heritage.
• use that national collection to strengthen and promote knowledge and
understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
• provide leadership in the fields of:
? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research; and? activities relating to collections associated with Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander peoples; and use (including use for research) of that nationalcollection and other collections containing Aboriginal and Torres StraitIslander culture and heritage.

• lead and promote collaborations and partnerships among the academic,research, non-government, business and government sectors andAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in support of the otherfunctions of the Institute.

About the GroupThe Major Events and Public Programs (MEaPP) group is responsible for the planning andexecuting of several flagship events to support the Institute in telling the story of Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander Australia and shaping our national narrative. The team is also responsiblefor the delivery of public programs including hosting external and VIP visitors.
About the Program AreaThe Major Events and Public Programs (MEaPP) group is responsible for the planning andexecuting of several flagship events to support the Institute in telling the story of Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander Australia and shaping our national narrative. The team is also responsiblefor the delivery of public programs including hosting external and VIP visitors.
About the RoleThe work of the Major Events and Public Programs area is varied, fast-paced and dynamic andextends across the whole agency. The small team works collaboratively with other groupsacross the Institute to achieve its goals. The key responsibilities of the role include:

• lead a small team to implement and oversee the coordination and planning of theAIATSIS Major Events and Public Program schedule.

• provide support to deliver the AIATSIS Major Events and Public Programs schedule.
• coordinate with service providers and relevant stakeholders throughout Major Events
and Public Program activities to ensure successful outcomes.
• prepare key documentation for Major Events and Public Program activities, including but
not limited to media releases, order of proceedings, run sheets, risk assessments, etc.
• develop procedures and check lists associated with the organisation of internal and
external events.
• oversee event marketing plans to ensure milestones are met in a timely manner.
• provide administrative support to the Director and Executive Director including drafting
CEO briefs and other documentation.
• other duties as required.

The ideal candidate will come with the following skills, experience. and attributes:

• understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business within the Institute and theoutcomes the Institute is responsible for delivering. You will show sensitivity and respectfor culture in responding to individual needs and circumstances and be flexible andwilling to tailor approaches to create culturally appropriate solutions.

• engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and possess a goodknowledge of cultural protocols when engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait

• possess 3-5 years of event management experience and/or formal qualifications in EventManagement.

• prior experience with event management programs, i.e., Eventsair.
• take responsibility of primary organisational elements of AIATSIS' and Australia's
leading Indigenous conferences, you will have significant event management experience,including developing, managing, and acquitting budgets, preparing key eventdocuments, and liaising with venues and service providers.

• understand Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).
• able to multi-task, work to competing deadlines and manage change effectively.
• at times, be working in a fast paced and demanding environment, and the ability to
respond positively to change in a flexible manner, to identify broader factors, trends andinfluences that may impact on own, and team's work is desirable.
Note - This position involves periods of interstate travel from time to time.
