About the Group The Office of the CEO (OCEO), which encompasses the IECD team, provides administrative support and strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
The OCEO works collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team across the institute, particularly with the Office of the Deputy CEO, who coordinate workflow and correspondence.
The OCEO is at the forefront of the Institute in liaising with external stakeholders including, but not limited to: Ministerial Offices; the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA); the Australian Diplomatic Corps; relevant Embassies; other Commonwealth and State and Territory departments; Indigenous Portfolio Bodies; Cultural Institutions - domestic and international; and the general public.
About the Program Area The International Engagement and Cultural Diplomacy (IECD) team sits within the OCEO and builds and maintains key relationships.
The team provides strategic insight and explores and delivers on strategic options to extend the reach and expertise of AIATSIS internationally, through mutually beneficial Memorandum's of Understanding whereby Joint Work Plans, often reciprocal exhibitions, cultural exchanges, and diplomatic practices are shared.
Our engagement is informed by the diverse nature of Indigenous peoples' cultures, stories, and histories from around the world and has a direct benefit to all communities we work with.
The team works closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), through specific countries' region desks, their respective Posts, and the Office of the Ambassador for First Nations Peoples, as well as Embassies in Australia and overseas.
By connecting and sharing knowledge across borders, the IECD team builds strong ties with other countries via institutions and diplomatic missions to create opportunities for First Nation-centered cultural exchange and knowledge sharing.
Role Summary The Assistant Director, International Engagement and Cultural Diplomacy (IECD) is a key leadership position within the Institute.
This role focuses on relationships and AIATSIS' contribution to enriching global First Nations efforts across collection and care of cultural heritage material, education, research, and culture revitalisation.
This position reports to the Director, IECD and involves working collaboratively with others both domestically and internationally.
The key duties of the position include: Actively identify, build, and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders including international partners across government, the Diplomatic Corps, and First Nations communities.Promote a better understanding of Indigenous peoples' culture and heritage both domestically and internationally.Manage the development, implementation, and review of AIATSIS' International Engagement Strategy.Manage the establishment of effective administrative systems to support international engagement.Provide high-level advice through verbal and written communication including briefing and correspondence to the Director, IECD and AIATSIS senior leaders to inform decision making.Manage the operation of the team, including reporting, resource management, staff management and development, recruitment, and team planning.Manage the logistical support for international delegations, internal and external stakeholder meetings, and key events. #J-18808-Ljbffr
