We have an exciting opportunity available within our Corporate Services Branch for an Assistant Director to join and lead the Information Governance team on an ongoing basis.

The Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman (OFWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act). Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act and other legislation to achieve our purpose:
provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
take appropriate enforcement action
perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

About the Team
The FWO is committed to an accountable and business-focused information management environment and culture and to engaging across Commonwealth agencies and communities of practice to implement whole of government information management initiatives.
The Information Governance Team delivers the OFWO's information governance functions and projects, which include a range of information management initiatives, the implementation of digital recordkeeping strategies, as well as the Agency's information access / freedom of information (FOI), information management and privacy functions.
About the Role
In the role of Assistant Director, Information Governance you will be responsible for leading a team to deliver these functions as required. To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate a strong strategic focus and have exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You will work collaboratively across the organisation, including working closely with the Policy Branch, Legal Group and organisational business units.
You will have excellent conceptual and analytical skills, and a sound understanding of archives, freedom of information and privacy laws and guidelines. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate sound judgment, influencing skills, strategic thinking and the ability to effectively lead a geographically dispersed team of information professionals to achieve results and build capacity. Travel may be required as part of this role.
Typical Duties
The duties of this role Assistant Director, Information Governance include, however, are not limited to:
Delivery of the OFWO's information access and FOI functions in accordance with statutory requirements and best practice, including making FOI decisions under delegation.
Leading projects and initiatives to ensure that FWO maintains a best practice approach to the management of information.
Enhancement of enterprise level information governance, management, skills and training.
Creating internal partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure that adequate engagement informs information governance strategies.
Adapt strategies and approaches to respond to risks, issues or evolving challenges, such as changing legislation, technology or new organisational functions.
Develop strong networks with information governance professionals in relevant disciplines and strong relationships with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
Support governance bodies through provision of regular reporting and advice.
Selection Criteria
Relevant qualifications and demonstrated professional experience in freedom of information, privacy or information management or related disciplines
Demonstrated ability to lead a small team to deliver an information governance service
Sound analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to make and document sound judgements
Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to translate complex information into succinct materials for different audiences
Demonstrated ability to influence others and move towards a common vision or goal
