The Information Access Unit (IAU) within the Ministerial Engagement and Communications Division is responsible for the management and processing of requests for information made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988, Military Rehabilitation Compensation Act 2004, Privacy Act 1988, and certain administrative access arrangements. Additionally, the IAU manages and processes responses to subpoenas and other notices to produce information from regulatory agencies.
The key duties of the position include:Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed team.Manage complex personal and non-personal information access matters under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.Analyse, integrate, and evaluate information to make decisions on complex matters.Prepare documentation such as correspondence of a complex nature, briefing papers, reports, Ministerial responses, and submissions to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).Foster and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including the OAIC and the Australian Government Solicitor.Participate in the weekly reporting cadence.Undertake quality assurance activities to promote evidence-based decision making.Resolve escalated issues and refer stakeholders to appropriate business areas.Exercise delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines.Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
