The successful applicant must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.About UsThe Heritage Division works to conserve, protect and sustainably manage Australia's biodiversity, heritage, oceans and First Nations heritage.
We contribute to improving the extent, condition and connectivity of Australia's and the region's unique environment, consistent with national and international obligations.The First Nations Heritage Protection Branch develops and implements policies, programs and regulations for the protection of First Nations cultural heritage, administering legislation through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984 (Cth) (ATSIHP Act).The JobCore responsibilities for all positions include:Leading and managing a high-performing team, empowering staff and building capability.Leading culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive teams.Developing and managing relationships with stakeholders to achieve positive heritage outcomes for First Nations peoples.Overseeing and preparing high quality written material including reports, ministerial briefs, and departmental analyses.Working under limited supervision, managing workloads and prioritising work with competing deadlines.Key ResponsibilitiesATSIHPA Team:Providing technical direction in the administration of the ATSIHP Act to support effective legislative decisions on First Nations Cultural Heritage matters.Managing contracts and ensuring contract outcomes are met.Regulatory Engagement and Cultural Capability Team:Developing and implementing work plans on the delivery of practice statements and Divisional Cultural Capability uplift.Leading the promotion and development of cultural capability.Identifying and implementing opportunities for business process improvements.What We Are Looking ForKnowledge and Experience:Ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Knowledge and experience working with Commonwealth regulatory practices.Skills and Capabilities:Ability to lead, mentor, and develop high functioning teams.Strong written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated interpersonal skills to build complex stakeholder relationships.Ability to work autonomously and adapt to changing priorities.Analytical and research skills to form sound judgements on complex issues.Eligibility and Other Requirements:Citizenship: You must be an Australian citizen.Security Clearance: This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance.Information Session: An information session for potential candidates will be held via Microsoft Teams on 8 January 2025 – 4.30 to 5.00 pm AEDT.
