Details: We are seeking an enthusiastic officer to join our team to progress Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and wellbeing policy and programs.
A unique opportunity exists for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to join the Mental Health Policy and Strategy team (MHPS) in the ACT Health Directorate.

The MHPS team is undertaking significant work to strengthen our service system capacity to deliver more culturally responsive mental health services by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced person who wants to help improve health and wellbeing outcomes with and for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their families, and community.

You will provide advice, support culturally appropriate and respectful engagement, and build partnerships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the ACT and other government and non-government stakeholders.

The successful applicant will be part of a small team planning and delivering policy, program development, and project-based activities.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience, and cultural capability is considered essential and therefore confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be requested.
Knowledge of ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with community is essential.
People with lived experience of mental ill health are strongly encouraged to apply.
Whilst not a requirement, qualifications and/or experience in project management, public policy and/or health-related fields is highly desirable.
Notes: This is a temporary position available from 06 January 2025 until 02 January 2026 with the possibility of extension.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
