Assistant Director, Grants Management UnitThe National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) works in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of First Nations communities. We implement the Australian Government's priorities and support the Minister for Indigenous Australians. NIAA has Executive Level 1 opportunities within the Grants Management Unit (GMU).The GMU is seeking applicants to fill current and anticipated vacancies, and to create a merit pool for future vacancies, in Alice Springs (NT), Darwin (NT) and Parramatta (NSW). The GMU provides high quality, professional grants management and administration services to our stakeholders that supports the outcomes of Government and improves the lives of First Nations Peoples. The core function of the GMU is to manage grant agreements. This includes the following:drafting agreements, negotiating and executing grant agreements, monitoring compliance and performancemanaging risk, making payments, analysing financial reports and acquitting fundingproviding strategic direction and leveraging expertise to ensure quality outcomes are delivered across a range of program areasworking with NIAA internal stakeholders to provide professional grant management services for Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) grants across the country and Aboriginals Benefit Account (ABA) grants managed in the Northern Territory GMU teamsmanaging employees and taking responsibility for their overall performanceThe Assistant Director is a key leadership position within the GMU. The position has delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities. The Assistant Director has responsibility for exercising Financial Delegations to manage grants. The role has people, program and stakeholder management responsibilities.Our Ideal CandidateTo fill the Assistant Director role, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following competencies:ability to manage a geographically dispersed team and ensure grant agreement management and administration activities comply with relevant legislation, guidance materials and policy frameworksprovide expert grant agreement management and administration advice to staff and internal stakeholders across varying levels of complexity, sensitivity and risksdemonstrated high-level analytical, research and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrating flexibility and good judgementengage effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding the management of grant agreements, service delivery and provider capability risks, performance reports, grant payment instalmentscapability to identify emerging opportunities or issues and respond quickly to competing priorities as they emergewillingness and commitment to develop the cultural competency of staff about the diverse cultural backgrounds of all Australians and of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and peopleseffectively supervise staff and constructively manage staff with a focus on capability development, team building and talent managementWhat We Offer:Exciting work with real purpose.
