Executive Level 1 ($121,717 - $138,722)

This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate. Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years. A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) works in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of First Nations communities. We implement the Australian Government's priorities and support the Minister for Indigenous Australians. NIAA has Executive Level 1 opportunities within the Grants Management Unit (GMU). The GMU is seeking applicants to fill current and anticipated vacancies and to create a merit pool for future vacancies, in Alice Springs (NT), Darwin (NT), and Parramatta (NSW). The GMU provides high-quality, professional grants management and administration services to our stakeholders that support the outcomes of Government and improve the lives of First Nations Peoples. The core function of the GMU is to manage grant agreements.

The Assistant Director is a key leadership position within the GMU. The position has delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities. The Assistant Director has responsibility for exercising Financial Delegations to manage grants. The role has people, program, and stakeholder management responsibilities.

To fill the Assistant Director role, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following competencies:

Identified Position
This position is Identified which signifies that the role has strong involvement in matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This position is required to liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers. You will require cultural competency.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen. The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
