Assistant Director, Financial Accounting & Services The Finance and Corporate Performance Branch is responsible for supporting the AEC to meet its obligations under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) for the efficient and effective use of public resources. Our activities encompass strategic financial management and advice, budget management including business support and finance partnering, financial services, reporting, administration of the AEC's Financial Management Information System, supporting the performance planning and reporting framework under the PGPA Act and leading the development of the agency's Corporate Plan and Annual report. We also develop and deliver financial management training to enhance financial capacity and capability across the AEC. The Financial Accounting and Services team provides a wide range of financial services (such as accounts receivables/payables, travel, credit card and debt management) and treasury functions as well as financial accounting and reporting activities (end of month reporting, reconciliations and the preparation of the AEC's annual financial statements). The Opportunity The Assistant Director leads the day-to-day work of the financial reporting team, within Financial Accounting and Services. As the Assistant Director you will lead the delivery of a range of financial accounting and reporting activities, including end of month reporting, financial statements, taxation and asset management functions. You will use your drive and initiative to ensure that the team is delivering high quality external financial reporting and internal financial accounting advice for the AEC. The role will lead the delivery of the annual financial statements including preparation of various financial statement notes and supporting work papers for audit, liaising with the Australian National Audit Office and reporting to the AEC's Audit Committee. The successful candidate will continually assess and improve the AEC's approach to financial reporting issues and implement effective solutions through policy, practices, procedures and training. The role may be required to perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time. To excel you'll have: In-depth knowledge of public sector financial management frameworks. Experience in financial accounting and reporting functions, including delivery of annual financial statements. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, providing client focused services. Ability to lead a team to deliver high quality outcomes, within required timeframes and show initiative, good judgement and be able to multi-task while achieving results. High organisational and time management skills and the ability to complete tasks within tight deadlines. Well-developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide advice to stakeholders regarding public sector operations and legislation and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Previous experience working with Technology One and/or CBMS. Knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice. AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
