ClassificationExecutive Level 1 ($121,717 - $138,722)Employment TypeOngoing & Non-ongoing (for an initial period of up to 12 months)This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.Flexible WorkFlexible working arrangements will be considered.The OpportunityThe Families and Safety Branch works with First Nations stakeholders and across all governments on justice, gender equality, ending gender-based violence and family and child safety issues.We are looking for people with strong analytical, stakeholder management and writing skills who want to work on policy and program reforms that are critical to achieving better life outcomes for many First Nations Australians.The branch works flexibly, with team members located across Australia. The role does require some Canberra hours and travel to Canberra, for example during Parliamentary sitting weeks.The role requires working with material that can be emotionally impactful or challenging. The agency offers a range of psychological safety supports for individuals and teams.The Assistant Director will influence others, lead policy design and implementation, and engage in genuine partnership with a variety of stakeholders. A variety of work will be undertaken including but not limited to:developing, interpreting, evaluating and implementing complex policy and programs for review and publicationpreparing and reviewing draft reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial Correspondence for senior staff and the Senior Executiveproviding advice on more complex areas of policy and programs and overseeing, maintaining and analysing policy and program initiatives to drive changeliaising with internal and external stakeholders, using networks across the APS to develop policy and provide advice to senior managementrepresenting the work area and participating in committees and forums in relation to policy and program development and implementationengaging with Cabinet and other processes.Our Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate is team-oriented, outcomes focused, self-motivated and resilient. We work individually and as a team and you will need to be able to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively. You will need basic MS Suite skills, have experience with data entry into internal systems and have an eye for detail.To be successful in the role you will be able to demonstrate the following:an in-depth understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoplesa demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoplesa demonstrated capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.
