This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate. Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years. A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity: The NIAA has an exciting and unique opportunity for an EL1, Assistant Director in Rockhampton. This role will work in close and genuine partnership with First Nations people and communities throughout Central Queensland to positively influence improved Closing the Gap outcomes. This job will lead and shape relationships with key partners in Indigenous communities, the Commonwealth, State Governments, and private enterprise to deliver Government priorities aligned to community aspirations. This role will have a sharp focus on supporting the economic empowerment of First Nations communities through programs and initiatives across south Queensland.
As Assistant Director Engagement, you will be part of a sub-regional team reporting directly to the Director Engagement providing support, leadership, and advice. Assistant Engagement Directors are responsible for:

The ability to travel, including overnight stays, is required and therefore a current Drivers License is essential. Interviews for this role will be conducted in early January 2025.
