Assistant Director (EL 1), Finance Business PartnersThe Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill the role of Assistant Director Finance Business Partner in our Finance and Procurement Branch.This is an ongoing, permanent position at the Executive Level 1 classification level. The successful applicant will work out of our office in Belconnen, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.The Finance Business Partner (FBP) team understands the alignment of ABS's budgeted resources to business strategies and provides strategic advice incorporating appropriate technical information from the right experts to provide innovative and complete business solutions. FBPs support stakeholders with robust, relevant, timely, and insightful financial analysis and advice, communicating in a way that influences decision-making.The key duties of the position include:The Assistant Director, Finance Business Partners (EL1) role responsibilities include:Manage the team's complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.Build and impart a high level of technical expertise and an expert understanding of clients' business plans, priorities, and projects as well as broader organisational priorities.Identify emerging financial risks and opportunities.Lead and quality assure your team's development and ongoing maintenance of divisional budgets ensuring that budgets and forecasts are supported by valid and robust assumptions and linkages with other divisions.Support the FBP Director through coordinating quarterly User Funded Revenue (UFR) Reviews and audits (if supporting divisions with UFR).Conduct effective meetings with line area budget owners to discuss financial performance, understand variances/commitments/new activity in the business area and update forecasts.Prepare and support the delivery of accurate and timely divisional reporting with high-quality analysis and commentary that is suited to the audience and effectively communicates the story behind the numbers.Support the FBP Director in developing and delivering the team forward workplan.Demonstrate a high level of collaboration through sharing information across FBP sections.Co-design and implement new solutions for reporting and analysis with the FBP Director.Complete ad-hoc or division-specific financial management tasks and requirements that fall outside of the standard ABS-wide budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.Identify training needs of team and stakeholders and support director in delivering this training.Implement consistent best practice FBP work practices and drive a high-performance team culture.To be eligible to apply for this role:You must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.You will need to undertake pre-employment checks, including national police check and health assessment.You may need to obtain (or hold) and maintain at least a Baseline security clearance.NotesTo be suitable you should have most or all the following skills, qualities, and experience:Demonstrated skills and experience in management accounting including budgetary preparation/monitoring, forecasting, strategic reporting.Demonstrated ability to maintain a forward work plan, organise, and direct immediate team's work priorities to meet deadlines and quality expectations in a high-paced environment.Ability to analyse and interpret complex data with a strategic thinking mindset when providing advice to senior management.Strong attention to detail and maintenance of proper records/evidence to support decision-making and audit.Demonstrated experience in developing and managing a range of stakeholder relationships to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes, and facilitate cooperation.Strong continuous improvement mindset – identifying opportunities to develop and/or improve existing processes, generating ideas, and implementing solutions.High proficiency in the use of Excel and TechnologyOne (or other FMIS) is essential.RecruitAbilityRecruitAbility applies to this vacancy.
