Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director - Communication on a contract until June 2022.
Position Overview
Assistant Directors support the agency to deliver effective marketing and communication solutions aligned to strategic priorities. You'll lead a team to design, develop, implement, budget and evaluate marketing and communication strategies and content. You'll collaborate with stakeholders to provide strategic advice and manage work output and quality. You'll ensure work meets whole of government communication guidelines. You'll work under the broad direction of senior staff but can work independently. You make decisions based on professional judgement and consideration of wider agency implications. In performing a leadership role, you support innovation and changes in workplace practices. You develop and support your team members.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead a team to deliver timely and effective communication strategies and solutions.
Manage staff performance, attendance and health and wellbeing.
Provide expert communication advice and feedback to the agency's executive.
Resolve and/or escalate sensitive issues that adversely impact on the agency.
Manage stakeholder relationships, scope requirements, negotiate and develop appropriate strategies.
Prepare and review written material including business cases, reports and executive briefs and corporate documents.
Represent and explain the views of the agency at cross-agency meetings and other forums.
Desirable Requirement:
A degree or diploma with a major in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing. Alternatively, possession of recognised skills, cadetship or relevant experience that the delegate considers appropriate to the duties of the position.
Knowledge and understanding of: contemporary communication practices and theorieslegislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements relevant to the work areathe agency's privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocolsissues affecting the agency's customers and stakeholdersrelevant business systems and tools.
Ability to: manage, mentor and guide staffunderstand the audience and context and effectively tailor communication and communication stylesdevelop long-term plans for the team and manage work in the context of competing prioritiesdevelop and manage a range of stakeholder relationshipsmake decisions based on professional judgement, risk evaluation and in the context of the environment.
Mandatory Requirements:
