Assistant Director and Senior Adviser, Communications Classification: APS 6 Level and Executive Level 1 THE ROLE:
Austrade's Visitor Economy and Client Programs (VECP) Division seeks energetic and talented communication specialists to tell our tourism and export grant stories and support building capability among industry. Australia's Visitor Economy (VE) was worth $213b in the last financial year and is Australia's biggest export service and 4th largest export (after iron ore, coal and gas).
We are responsible for the development and delivery of the Australian Government's national strategy for the Visitor Economy THRIVE 2030 which involves many Australian Government agencies, all States and Territories and a wide range of industry bodies. Our responsibility focusses on building the 'supply side' of tourism through assisting business capability and modernisation and we work closely with Tourism Australia who have the responsibility to work to stimulate the 'demand side' by bring holiday and business visitors to Australia. Within the VECP Division sits Tourism Research Australia – the official provider of tourism statistics, analysis and research which is critical for informed business and government decision making. We work hard to promote TRA statistics and products.
The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program which is 50 years old supports thousands of exporters and provides grants of more than $100m per year. We also deliver a wide range of tourism grant programs that Support Australian Tourism and Travel and are responsible for making 23AF regulatory decisions under the Tax Act.
Austrade's VECP team therefore have exciting and engaging responsibilities to communicate effectively across these and many other programs. All roles require communication and content specialists who can engage collaboratively in partnership to work with corporate communication teams and at all levels across Austrade, other agencies and industry bodies.

Duties include:
EL1 – ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATION
This role requires a strategic communications specialist to help share Visitor Economy and Client Programs policies, programs and priorities with a variety of audiences. They work across Austrade and with other government agencies. They also work across the department to ensure clear, coordinated and effective communications on our policies and programs. They produce communication strategies, plans, articles, case studies, web content, eDMs and social media posts.
They are content writers and producers who adhere to internal and whole-of-government digital publishing policies and provide advice on accessibility and writing for online audiences. They ensure articles and case studies showcase our programs and policies and meet Austrade's strategic objectives.
They are experienced team leaders with an interest in developing staff and nurturing a culture and team environment of innovation, wellbeing and resilience. They understand best-practice communication techniques and enjoy sharing their knowledge and expertise.
APS 6 – SENIOR ADVISER, COMMUNICATION
The Senior Communication Adviser works across the department to ensure clear, coordinated and effective communication of our policies and programs. They produce communication plans, articles, case studies, eDMs and social media posts. They ensure content aligns with the Division's objectives. They deliver other activities when required including supporting presentations, events and sponsorships.
They are content writers and producers who adhere to internal and whole-of-government digital publishing policies. They manage the production of content such as photographs, video or animation. They understand best-practice communication techniques, and they evaluate and improve on results.
