GWW is a Victorian government owned water corporation that provides an essential service to some of the fastest-growing communities in Australia, stretching from Melbourne's CBD to Lancefield in the north and Bacchus Marsh in the west.The opportunityThe role involves providing support to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Managing Director, ELT members, and Board Chairs, including coordinating and managing the preparation of meeting materials and contributing to the Legal & Governance team. The role also oversees and provides strategic advice on the privacy and freedom of information functions within the organisation.ResponsibilitiesEnsure accurate maintenance of Board and ELT records, coordinate communication, prepare meeting papers, oversee registers, support directors and committee members, and manage all board communications and correspondence.Monitor and stay updated on corporate governance requirements, compliance policies, legislative changes, and contribute to governance framework documents and annual reports as necessary.Provide governance training and assistance to employees, contribute to a culture of high performance and respect, and maintain professional relationships while upholding confidentiality and quality work.Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, support the Managing Director's office in managing relationships with the Board, influence stakeholders to prioritise action items for board papers, and communicate clearly and regularly to ensure consistent understanding of Board requirements and good governance.Create a collaborative and accountable team environment, mentor and support team members, provide vision and development opportunities, delegate tasks appropriately, and work collaboratively as a member of the leadership team.Oversee the freedom of information and privacy functions, providing strategic advice across the organisation and be the external liaison with regulators.Provide people leadership to a team of two, overseeing workload, performance and development plans, and performance management as required.Skills & ExperiencePrevious experience in a company/board secretariat or governance role, preferably in the government context.Ability to work well independently and in a team environment, flexibility and a willingness to adapt in a fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.Exceptional communications skills (both written and verbal) with proven previous experience in managing Board communications and correspondence, and ability to communicate at various levels of an organisation.Demonstrated experience with MS Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Diligent (or similar).Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple competing priorities and multiple stakeholders.Ability to influence stakeholders to complete action items within deadlines.High attention to detail, with an ability to see the bigger picture.Self-motivated with high level of initiative, with a focus on continuous improvement.Strong people leadership skills and ability to work as part of a cohesive team.Legal experience advantageous but not essential.See yourself thriveOur vision for GWW is Thriving People and Country.
