Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and supports the Minister for Corrections. CJS also comprises Justice Health, Policy, Strategy and Service Design, Group Services and Coordination, and Justice Services. CJS plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
About the Role The Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations leads Prison General Managers to drive the performance of prisons, including compliance, culture, assurance and achievement of Service Delivery Outcomes. The Assistant Commissioner supports prison General Managers to achieve the safe custody, welfare and rehabilitation of prisoners in accordance with the Corrections Act, the policies and standards set out by the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria in the Commissioners Requirements, Deputy Commissioner Instructions and Service Delivery Outcomes.
The Assistant Commissioner role is responsible for the operational performance of the prison system, the provision of high-level technical advice on custodial matters and related organisational issues, and supporting prison General Managers to achieve a standard of excellence in the delivery of custodial operations. The position is also responsible for assisting the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations through the provision of high-level and strategic advice on the current correctional environment and will support the future development of effective correctional operations, particularly custodial operations.
Some of your duties will include:
Contribute to shaping Corrections Victoria's culture as a member of the Corrections Victoria leadership team, including supporting ongoing cultural reform across the prison system and the achievement of the vision for Safer Prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities.Support Prison General Managers to lead and manage the operational performance of prisons, including working closely with corporate staff on human resources, finance, health and safety, and industrial issues.Provide technical expertise, advice and leadership in the delivery of custodial operations, including the delivery of quality outcomes and the development and negotiation of significant prison innovation and reform.About you To be successful in this role, you will have:
Recognised knowledge, specialist expertise and a record of achievement at a state-wide or national level in custodial operations or similar operational program areas, preferable in an institutional context within a complex, statutory operating framework.A proven record and high-level skills in problem-solving and developing solutions to meet business needs, using a sound evidence base and analytical skills, and the ability to develop innovative programs and responses to provide best practice custodial services in Victoria.Demonstrated people leadership and stakeholder engagement skills as evidenced through a record of achievement.Qualifications How to Apply Please click the Apply button on this advertisement.
