Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated high level of knowledge and experience in DET management systems including Cases21 Finance and Administration, eduPay and Compass. Experience in a high-volume accounts receivable environment, including receipting, invoicing, and understanding financial reports.
SC2   Demonstrated high level ability to provide advice, information and recommendations to the Business Manager on operational issues relating to finance, personnel and administrative systems, with a particular focus on financial record keeping and reporting methods.
SC3 Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including the capacity to develop collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, and parents/carers, and provide advice on school processes and policies.
SC4 Demonstrated capacity to manage and supervise other ES staff in a manner which enhances work systems, processes and relationships, and support to the Business Manager.
SC5 Demonstrated high level organisational and planning skills with an ability to work independently and constructively within a busy team and ensure continuous and efficient administrative operation.
Role The Assistant Business Manager is an integral member of the finance and administration team, a collaborative team with a focus on best practice. You will also be joining a team that is friendly, professional and supportive. You will initially have primary responsibility for managing accounts receivable in a high-volume environment, with a wide range of camps, excursions and events offered to students.
The Assistant Business Manager will be supported by the Business Manager in their career development and will have the option of being trained in the skillsets required to become a Business Manager, such as monitoring of the school budget and Student Resource Package reports. The position is best suited to someone with a continuous improvement mindset, who is keen to contribute, learn and apply new skills, and share their existing knowledge with colleagues. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities The responsibilities for the Assistant Business Manager role include but are not limited to the following:
- Prioritising the day to day and longer-term work of the team
- Identification and implementation of improved ways of working and increased efficiencies within the team
- Developing and training of team members
- Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements
- Conduct financial statement investigations to assist students, parents and staff members with their enquiries
- Manage a current list of excursions, competitions, camps etc and liaise with teachers so students, teachers and staff are aware of closing dates and dates of events
- Fundraising liaison for fundraising activities, supporting staff organising floats, donations, and collection of funds
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes on a daily basis with particular focus on accounts receivable
- Prepare a Reconciliation/Profit and Loss Statement for excursions and fundraising activities and other financial reports for the Business Manager
- Assist with Assets Management
- Assist with the Procurement process
- Support the team with staff, student and parent queries
- First Aid and reception support when required
- Other duties as requested by the Principal and Business Manger

Opening in 1905 it was Victoria¿s first state secondary school and moved to its current site in South Yarra in 1927. It is one of four academic select entry Victorian Government schools in Melbourne. Entry is by an examination in year 8. Boys from any school in the state, or outside Victoria, may seek admission. There is also a smaller intake by application and interview at years 10 and 11.
Students in years 9 and 10 undertake a course of core subjects (English, mathematics, science, history, geography, physical education, art, music, and languages ¿ Indonesian, Japanese, French and German) and have a choice of electives. An extensive range of VCE studies across all learning areas is offered to students in years 11 and 12. A health and personal development course also operates at all levels. The school operates on a 10-day timetable of 7 x 43 minute periods per day.
The school places special emphasis on its co-curricular program. Years 9 and 10 students spend a week at the Outdoor Education Centre at Millgrove in the Yarra Valley. Sport is compulsory at all levels. The music and drama programmes are extensive and include the house choral competition in March, Winter Concert, musical and drama productions (generally conducted in cooperation with the MacRobertson Girls¿ High School) and the whole school Speech Night at the end of the year. Students are also encouraged to form their own special interest clubs. There are many opportunities for student leadership at all levels.
In addition to government funding the School seeks voluntary contributions from parents.
