University of Medicine and Health Sciences-St. Kitts (UMHS) invites applications for a faculty position in Neuroscience. This role emphasizes team teaching, allowing faculty the opportunity to engage in research and scholarly activities. With an academic year structured into three semesters, teaching responsibilities will occur throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and deliver approved syllabi and learning objectives for the Neuroscience course.Organize, prepare, and regularly update course content.Utilize a variety of teaching techniques and advanced technologies to deliver effective lectures.Prepare and administer examinations, ensuring timely grading and constructive feedback to students.Support student success by maintaining availability during non-teaching hours.Serve on faculty committees and collaborate on departmental initiatives.Supervise students in problem-based learning, human-computer simulations in the UMHS virtual hospital ward, and clinical activities.Minimum Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field.3-5 years of teaching experience in an accredited medical school (preferably in the US, Canada, or UK).Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint.Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.A passion for teaching and student engagement.Course Description: MNEU 0810 Neuroscience/Neuroanatomy (7 credits) provides a comprehensive overview of the nervous system. The course emphasizes the structure and function of various levels of the nervous system, integrating anatomy and physiology. It correlates anatomical structures with physiological functions, focusing on the pathophysiology of neurological diseases. The course includes practical lab exercises, such as brain dissection and exposure to imaging techniques (angiograms, CT scans, MRI).
About UMHS: UMHS offers a state-of-the-art campus where students complete their Basic Science Program. The fifth semester occurs at our campus in Portland, Maine, followed by core clinical rotations and elective rotations at accredited teaching hospitals across the US and Canada. Graduates are eligible to apply for residency programs after successfully completing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2.
