About the Department The Environment Approvals Division (EAD) ensures the protection of matters of national environmental significance through its regulatory responsibilities under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The Division performs a variety of EPBC Act policy, support and assessment work for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

The Environment Assessments Queensland branch is one of five branches in the division with responsibility for implementing EPBC Act assessment in Queensland.

The Queensland Assessments Team is undertaking a range of projects to improve the way we do business.
This includes:
Engaging with external stakeholders across industry, government, local communities, and research/academia, to develop regulatory approaches that account for cumulative impacts of development at a landscape scaleBuilding a regional understanding of key species and threats in areas subject to high development pressureWorking with experts to address critical information gaps to enable us to provide evidence-based advice in a regional context to decision makersWhere appropriate, supporting other areas of the department to deliver epbc reforms.
About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to positive change, by developing innovative approaches to environmental regulation within the current legislative framework as well as supporting the transition to regionally based approaches to regulation. Note: This is not a standard assessment officer role.

You will: Work in a friendly, hard-working, and collaborative team, to identify and respond to emerging regulatory issuesEngage widely with internal and external stakeholders Lead and support the development of complex projects, contracts, and procurements Travel to locations across Queensland to meet stakeholders and develop first-hand understanding of the industries, landscapes and species impacted by environmental regulationDevelop and implement business process improvementsBe supported in your professional development by an experienced and supportive management team
Work location
This role is a Canberra based position; however, we are open to discussing flexible working arrangements. To seek further information please speak with the contact officer prior to submitting your application.

What we are looking for Knowledge and experience
* Stakeholder engagement, project management and regulatory experience will be highly regarded.
* Knowledge of the EPBC Act and a tertiary qualification in a relevant field would be advantageous but is not essential
