As the Youth Engagement Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the Guardian for Children and Young People to fulfill her statutory responsibilities, empowering children and young people in out-of-home care and youth detention to participate actively in strategic, policy, and systemic practice development relevant to their care and detention experiences.
In this new role, you will help design and maintain engagement initiatives, providing children and young people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the Guardian's systemic and strategic change agenda.

About the Guardian for Children and Young People: The Office of the Guardian for Children and Young People (OGCYP) is an independent body that promotes and advocates for the rights and best interests of children and young people who are:
Under the guardianship of the Chief Executive of the Department for Child Protection; and/or Sentenced or remanded to detention in the Adelaide Youth Training Centre (AYTC). We provide advocacy on individual and systemic issues, as well as monitoring safety and wellbeing for children and young people in care or detention.
In everything we do, we are committed to ensuring the voices of children and young people are heard, and their rights are upheld.
The OGCYP provides support for the Guardian for Children and Young People, who is an independent statutory officer appointed under the Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies Act).
The Guardian also holds the roles of Training Centre Visitor, Child and Young Person's Visitor, and Youth Treatment Orders Visitor.

About the Role: The Youth Engagement Coordinator reports to the Principal Policy Officer within the OGCYP.
The Youth Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring successful, ethical, and appropriate engagement with children and young people who have experience of living in the out-of-home care and the youth detention sector.
The Youth Engagement Coordinator is required to contribute to meeting objectives across all legislative mandates of the Guardian and Visitors, ensuring a dedicated focus on gaining the views and perspectives of children and young people who have experience of living in out-of-home care and/or youth detention.
The Youth Engagement Coordinator will:
Contribute to organisational and sectoral discourse and development in relation to out-of-home care and youth detention experience inclusion, youth engagement, and knowledge exchange practices with children and young people. Grow and diversify existing and new youth engagement mechanisms within OGCYP, ensuring opportunities for children and young people with care and/or detention experiences to express their views to shape systems reform. Desirable Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline (e.g., youth justice, social work, psychology, social sciences, government investigations, law, or public policy) or equivalent relevant, high-level experience. Special Conditions: The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) child-related employment screening prior to being employed, which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.
The incumbent will be required to undertake the Safe Environments for Children and Young People 'Through their eyes' training course and update as necessary.

Remuneration: ASO6 $98,478 - $104,165 per annum (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.
