About the Role: The Statewide Inclusive Education Services (SIES) is a specialist statewide operational unit within the Inclusive Teaching and Learning Directorate. The Deaf Cultural Officer based at SIES is a member of the Early Intervention Service Deaf Hard of Hearing (EIS/DHH) for babies and pre-school children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The role focuses on enhancing learning outcomes for children with hearing loss by fostering collaborative relationships with families, children and educators within educational settings. It involves providing cultural awareness training, mentorship, and professional development, while also serving as a positive Deaf role model. The role requires fluency in Auslan, a deep understanding of language acquisition in early childhood and the ability to manage tasks both independently and as part of a team. The Deaf Cultural Officer will support first language acquisition, inclusion and the capability building of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children, their families and educators within educational settings.
Qualifications: Essential: Lived experience. Auslan as a first language.
Special Conditions: The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration: ASO4 $76,561 - $80,256 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (11.5%) and leave loading.
