An entry requirement for employment with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is that you must be an Australian citizen. If you do not meet the citizenship conditions for service in the ADF, we are unable to accept an application from you. You are welcome to apply once you have completed your citizenship journey. Your role: A Gap Year in the Army gives you an exciting taste of life in the ADF with just one year's commitment. You'll get paid for meaningful work, receive full Army training, and enjoy memorable experiences – unlike anything you'd encounter in most gap year jobs. From the moment you start your Gap Year experience, you'll be supported throughout your training by professional and enthusiastic Army personnel, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of your experience. The 12-month experience will arm you with the skills and knowledge to contribute to your career journey inside or outside of the Australian Defence Force. After completing the Gap Year program, you'll have the opportunity to leave or continue your Army employment in a full-time or part-time capacity. Once you complete your Initial Military Training; you'll grow your skills and expertise in one of the following roles: - Driver where you'll get behind the wheels of an exciting variety of high performing military vehicles, from a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon to a 110-tonne heavy equipment transporter designed to carry cargo like tanks, or - Warehouse Coordinator where you'll take on a critical warehouse management and logistics role, acquiring valuable supply chain skills and distribute state-of-the-art military equipment that most people don't get to see, or - Cargo Specialist where you'll ensure crucial cargo gets to its destination on time – by road, rail, sea or air. You'll learn to operate heavy machinery from forklifts to cranes to small landing craft.
