Established in 1996, Converge Heritage + Community (Converge) has offices in Brisbane, Hervey Bay and Cairns.
Converge consults across all areas of cultural heritage, including Indigenous, built and historic heritage.
Converge has a diverse range of long-term clients across public and private enterprise in conjunction with a close working relationship with a number of Traditional Owner groups.
We have a well-established team of senior consultants and pride ourselves on producing high quality, innovative and ethical work that meets best practice standards.
Converge has a regular stream of project work and we are currently looking for an experienced archaeologist to join our team in a middle or senior role.
We are seeking applications from professionals with suitable qualifications (minimum postgraduate or honours) and a minimum of 5 years' industry experience working as an archaeologist with a focus on Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment and management.
We are open to have the successful applicant to be based in either our Brisbane or Hervey Bay offices, with other locations being considered on a case-by-case basis.
Likewise, we are open to applicants being employed on a full-time, part time, casual or subcontracting basis.
The successful applicant/s will be responsible for assisting our existing team in the provision of quality archaeological and Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment and management services to our clients.
While these services will be predominantly in Queensland, some interstate work may also be included.
Dependent on their level of experience and expertise, applicants will be responsible for the management of projects, the supervision of field teams, skills development within the company, and maintaining high quality communication with clients and Converge senior management.
Qualifications and experience Minimum B.A.
Honours in Archaeology or Anthropology or equivalent. Additional qualifications/experience in historic archaeology, GIS/mapping or other specialist skills will be an advantage.Experience in CHMA and CHMP development and related liaison and negotiation with Aboriginal Parties/proponents would be well received.Current Open Driver's License.Permanent Australian residency. The Role This role is suited to an applicant with a minimum of 5 years' experience in either: 
Consulting archaeology - ideally has carried out excavation, survey and reporting under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003.
Demonstrated understanding of interstate and Commonwealth legislation will also be regarded highly.Consulting anthropology - experienced in undertaking structured consultation interviews with Indigenous stakeholders and completing cultural values assessments and associated cultural mapping.Demonstrated experience in the production of quality reporting and associated management and mitigation strategies.The development and negotiation of cultural heritage management agreements and management plans will be an advantage.
You will be working within an office-based, collaborative team environment.
In addition to office-based work you will also be expected to undertake field survey and archaeological excavations, as well as post excavation analysis and reporting.
On occasion, rural or interstate projects may require periods away from home.
The applicant will be required to complete projects within time and budget constraints and must be committed to maintaining high levels of communication with stakeholders.
The key responsibilities for the role include:
Conducting cultural heritage assessments, including archaeological survey and excavation where relevant.Working collaboratively with Aboriginal parties and other stakeholders.Managing a range of heritage projects.Preparing quality cultural heritage reports.Preparing quality advice to clients and stakeholders.Assisting in the drafting and negotiation of CHMA and CHMP agreements and attending meetings as advisors to both proponents and Aboriginal Parties.Managing and growing positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.While it is envisaged that the position will be full-time, we are open to considering more flexible working arrangements.
Remuneration to be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications.
