The opportunity we have available The Net Zero Unit supports the Department and our Ministers to strengthen and coordinate our portfolio's contribution to the decarbonisation agenda and embedding climate resilience. We deliver a centralised function in the Department, bringing together expertise, providing advice, and developing policies to:
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport and infrastructure sectors Build resilience to extreme weather events impacting upon the infrastructure, markets within our portfolio Support the transition to, and take advantage of, the opportunities of a net zero future. We work closely with other Australian Government agencies, state and territory governments, and industry to ensure decarbonisation policies are joined-up and effective. Our key focus areas over the next 6 months include:
Leading the delivery of the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Roadmap, the Government's transport sectoral emissions reduction plan Driving the Government's decarbonisation agenda through the Infrastructure and Transport Ministers' Meeting (ITMM) transport and infrastructure decarbonisation working groups Supporting the development of measures that address the carbon intensity of infrastructure delivery Exploring opportunities to support place-based decarbonisation in our regions Continuing to build our Department's capability and understanding of climate change and emissions reduction What will you do? Your responsibilities will generally include:
Assisting with the development of high quality, considered and timely advice and briefings on the impact of climate change and transport and infrastructure emissions reduction matters to support portfolio Ministers and senior executives Maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy advice and support the delivery of the Government's decarbonisation agenda, including providing secretariat support Research and analysis on climate change and emissions reduction as it relates to the transport and infrastructure sectors Research and analysis on place-based and people-focused approaches to decarbonisation and resilience Project management, planning and coordination Contributing to a positive, innovative and inclusive culture across the Unit and the Department more broadly. Who are we looking for? The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS6 Work level standards.

Communicate effectively both written and verbally , delivering information in a variety of formats for a range of audiences. Think strategically , evaluating complex information from a variety of sources to make connections and sound decisions while exercising good judgement. Experience and/or qualifications in climate change, environment or economics is desirable, but not mandatory.
