The Communication and Change Branch provides high-quality advice and support through a range of enabling services, including media engagement activities, ministerial announcements, speechwriting services, strategic communication services, video and design services, social media engagement and advertising campaigns.
We are seeking a talented and organised communication professional to undertake media engagement activities and raise awareness of the Government's infrastructure, transport, regional development, communications and arts policy agenda.

Reporting to the Media Manager and working collaboratively as part of a high-performing media section, you will deliver a range of materials and advice to support exciting Australian Government initiatives, including:
Projects and initiatives in infrastructure and regional development, including major road and rail projects as well as regional and community infrastructure grants programs Transport programs, policy and regulation, including in aviation, maritime, vehicle standards as well as road and rail safety.  Emerging technology including the expansion of 5G, regional telecommunications issues, misinformation and disinformation, online safety and digital platforms, and issues impacting the media and news industry. Creative and cultural projects, including the Government's National Cultural Policy - Revive and the Location Incentive program which brings international film and television productions to Australia. Identifying opportunities and developing media engagement strategies. Developing strong working relationships with external stakeholders including state and territory governments, portfolio agencies and private sector organisations. Foster and maintain strong and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, representing the Section and our reputation for effective media service delivery. Developing and coordinating media enquiry responses. Media monitoring, production and analysis of media reports. Drafting media releases and talking points. Increase users of Streem – the department's current media monitoring provider – and provide training for departmental and ministerial staff. Contribute to the positive working culture of the section and branch. Participating in an after-hours on-call roster as required. Who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will be a driven person with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills who is capable of leading other communication professionals to deliver positive outcomes in both proactive and reactive environments.
Attention to detail and proven high level organisational and time management skills are critical to this role, including the ability to manage and motivate your team to deliver high quality media engagement products within a high-pressure environment.

Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen. 
Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.
